hints for a happy mom and a productive nanny secret 2

There has been a few things I’ve found to be really helpful to keep the mom of these kids happy and a day thats A. more productive for me and B. passes time so I not only don’t get bored but also so the kids know I will not always becken their every need.

here is my secret number 2:

The house smells amazing when you bake/cook anything. (unless you burn it of course) and here are two of my favorite:

orangesFirst, you can eat the oranges and use the peel or you can boil the orange slices. I think they both work well, but boiling the actual orange makes the smell a little bit stronger. I usually use the smallest pot i have and fill it half with water and then oranges. For a six inch diameter pot, I use 2 regular sized oranges or 5 clementines. I usually just guess for vanilla and cinnamon by tipping bottol till it spills and then tipping right back up. the cinnamon i usually cover the top of the water and then stir it in. I start it on a boil and then bring it down to a simmer when the water is bubbling. I refil my water when it gets low and seldon add vanilla and cinnamon refills. I also shut it off when I go to bed, leave it open faced on the stove and start it again the next day. I’ve used mine for 3 days straight and it still smells great.

This is a good one just for the smell, sometimes kids like to stir in the ingredients and occassionally i will let them shake in the cinnamon. plus they love eating a slice or two or orange.

My second recipe is more so to keep busy. The kids LOVE watching me make things in the kitchen and either sit on the stools to watch, (and sometimes help stir) or they know when I’m baking that I’m busy and they play on their own. So far, I have not had any problems with them making messes or doing anything naughty during the time I have baked which is a big blessing. They like to watch and ask questions and when they get bored they go play on their own.

These are raspberry, cinnamon, sugar cookies.

cookiesI don’t have the recipe off hand but its a basic sugar cookie recipe but instead of a teaspoon of vanilla, I use half a teaspoon of vanilla and half a teaspoon of raspberry extract. I also springle in a teaspoon or so of cinnamon and like snickerdoodle cookies I roll the dough in sugar before baking them. These ones I added neon pink food coloring for the tint. They made the house smell great and the kids like to taste them for snack. Big hit.

Hints for a happy mom and a productive nanny secret 1

There has been a few things I’ve found to be really helpful to keep the mom of these kids happy and a day thats A. more productive for me and B. passes time so I not only don’t get bored but also so the kids know I will not always becken their every need.

First of all, they have a lot of toys… and their rooms somtimes look like a tornado went through them. Some days I take time to throw it all in buckets, and other days I spend lots of time organizing all into the right buckets but other days I’m too tired or have other things I’d like to do. Secret #1: a made bed makes the room look 50% cleaner.

boysbeds girlsbeds2 girls bedsTheir big monogrammed blankets I put on the bottom and then their top blanket (blue and green) I fold at the end with all their “baby” or “snuggly” blankets folded on their pillows.

The girls have a few “baby” blankets that are a foot by a foot and throw pillows so I usually switch off which ones I put on the bed by their pillows and one stuffed animal. Because the girls have more blankies 2 foot by 3 foot ones, I fold them all and put them at the end of the bed instead of on their pillows like in the boys room.

life as a nanny… for 4 kids under age 3

Im going to blog for the next few posts about my semester being a full time nanny for two sets of twins. 3 yr old boys and 2 yr old girls. Yes, they are from the same family, and are the parents insane? You would think so but they manage pretty well and really, its just about learning a few tricks. Surprisingly its really great that they each have a playmate, it keeps them busy most of the time, and although, yes, they don’t fight occassionally, they are incredibly caring for one another. I’ve learned a lot about kids, parenting, new things about myself and even about living life whole heartedly for Jesus through this job experience. I love these kids so much and wouldnt trade it for any other nanny job in the world.

Meet Jocelyn and Aaliyah (2 and a half years old)

jocelyn aaliyahJocelyn loves to snuggle, she is my touchy-feely baby and is always laughing, easily amused and is a complete risk taker, you have to watch her because she will jump at you without notice…even if its down 9 stairs.  Aaliyah is my thinker. She loves to organize and sort things. She is self sufficient and very compassionate. Anytime one of them is crying and it wasn’t because she took a toy away, she goes straight to them and asks, “Jocy.. are you okay, Jocy?” They fight more than the boys but are really well behaved.

Meet Bennett and Ethan:

bennett ethanBennett is my emotional boy. He can get really dramatic but is really fun. Bennett is the first to ask questions and will most definitely be inquisitive. The boys are much better than the girls at keeping themselves busy and are almost always playing together whereas the girls start playing together and tend to do their own thing faster. Ethan is the best listener of the 4, hes always respectful and easy going. He will do almost anything you offer or suggest. May be a dangerous thing as a teenager 😉

if money wasnt an issue, I’d pack my bags, and get on a redeye flight headed straight for paris…Right now.

I looooove pictures. I love seeing things for real, but there is just something about pictures that make you desire new things, to go places and to experience new life.. or old life.

I just saw some pictures of Europe and I want to go so badly. Traveling the world gives you such a rush, your eyes are opened to so much more of everything than you even thought imaginable. There are people doing all kinds of things at this very moment. Gambling, shooting a film, drinking, getting married, taking pictures, snugglings, whining and dinning, and even starving, freezing and aching. Everything is happeneing all over right now.

I want to go there, I want to be there, I want to experience it all.

I want Gods heart, His eyes and his mind for the world. I want to see what He sees; both good and bad.

you know, honestly I have no idea if anyone reads this.. but somtimes I share probably too much of whats inside this body of mine.

on that note. im heading to hard copied, good ole fashion letters that stay in my journal.. errr diary. nope journal.

stay tuned. I go back to school in 5 days after being out for a year.

will have fresh things to say next week.
